The CFA is urging landholders to register their planned burn-offs and monitor conditions closely.

With the fire season now concluded, the Country Fire Authority is urging rural landholders to register any planned burn-offs to avoid unnecessary emergency callouts across the region.

Authorities say the fastest way to notify is through the Fire Permits Victoria website, encouraging residents to plan ahead and lodge details online wherever possible.

CFA acting chief officer Garry Cook warned that despite recent rainfall, unseasonably warm autumn conditions mean caution is still essential.

“Burn-offs can reignite days later, so it’s critical people monitor weather conditions and keep neighbours informed about smoke,” he said.

Residents are reminded they are responsible for any fire they light and should never leave burn-offs unattended, ensuring they are fully extinguished with water.

Failure to register burn-offs continues to drive unnecessary Triple Zero calls, placing pressure on emergency services.

Officials say online notifications are simpler and quicker than phone reporting, which should only be used for burns starting within two hours.

Landholders are also encouraged to check forecasts, establish clear firebreaks and have adequate supervision in place before lighting any burn.
