The dispute centres around WWCC withdrawing from the Riverina Regional Library (RRL) Service.
It is between WWCC and the other RRL member councils in relation to the withdrawal and mainly around the treatment of assets – ownership and dispersal.
“NSW Libraries have been requested to assist in this process and are doing so, and an arbitrator has been appointed,” Federation Council’s General Manager Adrian Butler said.
“Hopefully with an arbitrator we come out in a good position.”
Cr Gail Law emphasised the significance of the library function throughout the whole of the Federation Council area.
“The Riverina Library is very important to us, not only in town but the mobile bus which goes around our whole Federation Council area,” she said at council’s latest monthly meeting on August 15.
Cr Aaron Nicholls, who is vice chair of the Riverina Regional Library Advisory Committee, believes Federation Council is in a good position and seconded the motion by Cr Law for council to authorise the General Manager to sign the Arbitration Agreement and that further reports be presented to council as required.
Acting mayor Shaun Whitechurch added his word of support for the library service in Federation Council.
“It’s such an important service for our such large area and communities,” he said.
