The $463,000 upgrade is funded under the Federal Government’s Black Spot Program and includes roundabout construction, upgraded signage, line marking and new lighting.
Work on the project is expected to start early next year.
Moira Shire Council chair administrator, Graeme Emonson said the funding was a very welcome investment into improvements to road safety in Yarrawonga and the greater Moira Shire.
The busy intersection is on the corner adjacent Yarrawonga Health’s aged care services.
“The Black Spot Program has been crucial in supporting council to carry out some really important upgrades already, including works underway at the Five Ways intersection in Yarrawonga, Labuan Road in Strathmerton, and other intersection upgrades in Cobram and Yarroweyah,” Dr Emonson said.
“We are pleased to see funding for a roundabout at Piper and Hume streets in this year’s program, which will help improve safety and traffic flow in a busy area of Yarrawonga.
“Upgrading our infrastructure at priority areas within our towns to make it safer and more accessible is really important to ensure our road network keeps up with the needs of a growing community.”
The Black Spot Program targets locations where serious crashes have occurred, or are at risk of occurring, and are identified in partnership with communities.
