The John Monash Science School is Victoria's first specialist secondary school with an explicit focus on science, mathematics and associated technologies.
The program enables selected Year 10 students from rural Victoria to learn at Monash University campus for three weeks.
Ruby and her fellow exchange participants will be home stayed in Melbourne while they participate in the regular Year 10 curriculum at John Monash Science School.
Ruby will also be able to participate in specialised emerging science electives, field trips and extra-curricular activities.
For the year 10 student from Cobram, the knowledge of what she is about to experience is exciting and overwhelming.
“I was so excited to hear that I had been accepted into the program; it’s a bit daunting as I will need to be at the Mathematics and Science school for three weeks,” Ruby said.
Ruby aspires to a career in health or science and believes this experience will provide valuable guidance for her future.
“I have a keen interest in dietetics and pharmacy as I particularly love chemistry,” she said.
“This experience will give me a good insight and possibly give me more direction as to my career pathway.”
CSC’s high-ability co-ordinator, George Allen, assisted Ruby in putting together her application, and she couldn’t be prouder.
“This is a fantastic achievement and gives her the opportunity to experience education in Melbourne at a specialist mathematics and science school with other high-achieving maths and science students from around the state,” he said.
“We are so proud of Ruby. She has worked incredibly hard for this opportunity, and we know she will grab it with both hands.”
