Rural Tanks and Garden Beds opened up shop in town about three decades ago.
In 2002, Seymour resident Dave Palmer took over the business, moving it to its current location nestled on the corner of Tebble and Darcy streets in 2007.
“Since moving, we introduced raised garden beds to our range of water tanks and now also manufacture wicking beds, aquaponics fish tanks and grow beds, as well as now producing galvanised corrugated sheets,” Mr Palmer said.
“We service the local and wider community, sometimes even interstate. One of our tanks even went to Darwin. Looking around town and in schools around the state, you’ll see plenty of examples of our work.”
In fact, some of its wicking beds may feature in a Hollywood blockbuster.
“They filmed Liam Neeson’s The Mongoose in Castlemaine and we manufactured the galvanised wicking beds that line the streetscape there,” Mr Palmer said.
On its website, Rural Tanks and Garden Beds boasts its offering of the ‘traditional job’, delivering high quality galvanised tanks, which is a product that was patented in 1857.
“I think it’s important to offer the traditional job, as we are one of the last to be able to offer it. It is another disappearing trade,” Mr Palmer said.
“I firmly believe corrugated galvanised iron is one of the most underutilised and convenient building materials.
“It is aesthetically country Aussie, it is practical, the water quality is second to none and plenty of old timers well into their 80s and 90s, and beyond, can attest to this.”
Throughout September, the local business will offer a discount on a particular product.
Customers who purchase any 42cm high garden bed will get their second at half the cost.
Those interested can visit the physical store in Seymour’s industrial estate, or contact the team, who is more than happy to assist with any needs.
“Like a lot of other local businesses, we support local clubs, schools and organisations,” Mr Palmer said.
“We also purchase as much as possible from local suppliers.
“We have a unique safety edge on our garden beds and we are one of the last tank makers to do the traditional job.”
