Annabelle’s performance showed composure and speed on the big stage and was the standout of the day to finish third in the state.
She also competed strongly in the 200m event, narrowly missing a place in the final.
“Annabelle’s podium finish was a fantastic highlight, but we’re equally proud of every student who trained hard, supported one another, and represented our school with pride,” Sacred Heart teacher Xavier Kennedy said.
Annabelle Kennedy claimed bronze at the Victorian Athletics Championships earlier this month.
The school was represented by eight students at the state championships, held at Lakeside Stadium, Albert Park.
The event brought together some of the best young athletes from across Victoria, and Mr Kennedy said the Sacred Heart team certainly rose to the occasion.
In the boys’ events, Jack Hawking performed well in the Under 9/10 Boys Discus, finishing eighth overall, while Levi Tenace demonstrated determination and endurance to place 14th in the Under 9/10 Boys 800m.
Team spirit was on display in the relay events where the Boys 4 x 100m relay team, with Levi Tenace, Jack Hawking, Ned O’Brien, and Charlie Kennedy, ran with excellent teamwork and enthusiasm.
The Girls 4 x 100m relay team, made up of Annabelle Kennedy, Indi Perks, Ruby Joyce, and Peggy Bonuda were impressive with their speed and coordination.
Both teams finished fifth in their heats and narrowly missed the finals.
Sacred Heart staff commended all competitors for their sportsmanship and dedication.
“Congratulations to all our athletes on their outstanding efforts at the State athletics, a truly proud moment for Sacred Heart Primary School, Yarrawonga,” Mr Kennedy said.
