Parks Victoria has advised over the years staff have raised concerns about turning into Forges Pump Lane, particularly during peak visitation periods and have witnessed several near misses.
The camping area accessed by this road is the most popular camping location along the entire Murray River due to its large sandy beaches and all-weather access.
The upgrade is partly funded by the state government’s Fixing Country Roads Program.
Works under contract include the widening of the road pavement, sealing, line marking, signage and associated drainage.
The intersection will continue to be used throughout the contract period and should not take up the three-month period but engineers want to wait until it gets a little bit warmer and drier before doing the final seal.
The intersection upgrade will also provide an opportunity for a new entry to Rich Glen Olive Estate.
After consideration of the tender submissions, the Moira Shire Council evaluation panel recommended that contract C016/19 - Forges Pump Lane Intersection Upgrade, Yarrawonga be awarded to Bitu-Mill (Civil) Pty Ltd.
