It will be presented to the winner of the Deniliquin Business Chamber’s Apprentice of the Year at the 2024 Deniliquin Business Excellence Awards.
Will lost his life in a car crash on his way to trade school last year.
He was an apprentice with Fitzpatrick Fabrications.
His family, employer and workmates joined the Deniliquin Business Chamber in launching the scholarship at the inaugural Tradies Night on Thursday.
Valued at $2000 per year, it is intended to “make a real difference for an aspiring apprentice in the thriving trades industry”.
Tradie Night co-organiser and chamber executive officer Kate Pitt said it was an emotional but significant part of the evening.
“Will was an outstanding and well-regarded young man with extraordinary skills and work ethic,” she said.
“We’ve had great support for the scholarship already, and we would love to speak with anyone who would like to come on board - a family, business or individual - to contribute more funds to keep it going for years to come.
“Businesses should start keeping an eye out for any apprentices deserving of the scholarship.
“We look forward to awarding the winner at the chamber’s Business Excellence Excellence awards on August 16.”
