The Seymour Rock ’n’ Roll Club has been officially running in the community since April 19, 1994, and over the years has amassed a strong following of dazzling dancers.
President Mick Gardener, who has been with the club for 30 years, said it was the music that had kept him there for so many years.
“It’s the music I grew up with,” he said.
“Rock ’n’ roll is in your face, it’s attitude, it’s dancing very close together.
“As soon as you hear the music, you just want to dance to it.”
Each Monday, the club meets at the Seymour VRI Hall at 7.30pm for a night of dancing, music and friendship.
Lessons are primarily led by treasurer Norni Clarke, who said, “some nights we’re too busy talking instead of dancing”.
Lessons cost $5 per person, aside from the first one, which is free, and the club is entirely not-for-profit.
Over the years, the group has donated to the Seymour community, including $4000 worth of trestle tables to the Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall, hundreds of dollars worth of goods to the Seymour Women’s Shed, and breakfast foods to the local schools.
Each year, members of the Rock ’n’ Roll Club look forward to a couple of dancing events.
One of which will be held on June 21 at the Pyalong Recreation Reserve Hall.
From 7pm, attendees can expect a night filled with dancing, rocking and rolling, with music from ‘Kid’ James and Kieron McDonald filling the hall until late.
Tickets are $25, and can be purchased by contacting Norni on 0427 404 499.
