Over the course of two weeks, Year 6 students from Moama Anglican Grammar School came together to create a vibrant legacy mural as a gift to the school.

With the help of art teacher Cindy-lee Pedrana, all 55 Year 6 students had a hand in the mural’s creation.
The design, created by a select group of students chosen by Mrs Pedrana, portrays unique characteristics of the Echuca-Moama community and the Murray River.

Member of the design team Gracie Fear said a lot of thought went into the final design.
“There was a lot of thinking put into what we could do on here because there’s a lot of stuff that’s original to Echuca, but I think it ended up pretty good,” she said.
“When we first started, I was very worried I was going to mess up, but now that it’s good, and it looks really good, I’m really happy.
“Because (Mrs Pedrana) is doing it every year now, every Year 6 is going to have something they’ve done to stay at this school for ever.”
The final design features local wildlife such as the Murray cod and eastern long-necked turtle, the iconic PS Emmylou, the Port of Echuca’s horse and carriage ride, the original Echuca-Moama bridge and more.
Once the design was ready, Mrs Pedrana sketched it on to the brick wall before students got to painting.

Mrs Pedrana said the mural would leave a lasting legacy of the students’ time in primary school.
“I think it’s gone above and beyond what we expected them to do,” she said.
“Some of them will be staying here obviously because we go up through to the high school, but those that will be leaving the school, it’s something that they can have left behind, a little piece of them for the rest of the generations to come through.”
The mural can be found in the primary school play area, alongside other murals done by previous students.
