Under the leadership of the recently elected President Stuart Whisson, and with the support of several dedicated Lions members, the club set up a stall at the Corowa Rotary monthly markets, venturing into the delectable world of doughnut making.
“Doughnuts are just the beginning, and we have plans to expand our offerings to include Fairy Floss and coffee in the near future. It’s all about making our presence felt and connecting with the people of Corowa,” Mr Whisson said.
In a heartwarming return, Lion Corrinie Barker, who had been on a hiatus of several months due to health challenges, was back in action, actively contributing to the doughnut-making venture over the weekend.
But the Lions Club of Corowa is not just about sweet treats. They continue to make a significant impact through their Can Collection Project, which raises about $2,500 to $3,000 each month. These funds go towards supporting Lions Cancer projects and various other community initiatives.
Herman Fransen and a dedicated group of volunteers diligently collect 10-cent containers every Monday, while on the first Monday of each month, Lions members conduct a large-scale collection in Rutherglen, Wahgunyah, and Corowa. Additionally, DG John in Wangaratta plays a vital role by collecting cans in support of the Corowa Club project.
