Passengers can now tap on with a bank card, phone or smartwatch at every train station through to Echuca.

The rest of the regional V/Line network will progressively switch on in the coming weeks, including every station on the Swan Hill line (August 23), Shepparton line (August 30), Ararat and Maryborough lines (September 6), Warrnambool line (September 13), Bairnsdale line (September 20), Albury line (September 27), with Benalla and Euroa stations to be added on November 22 following station upgrade works.

Previously, travellers in regional areas have used paper or electronic tickets.

Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said expanding the contactless ticketing network makes rail travel even easier, giving passengers more options and making it easier to travel.

The myki system allows regional travellers to tap on and off with a myki card, a bank card, phone or smartwatch.

V/Line services will still allow users to reserve seats.

Works are continuing to install 106 new readers across 37 V/Line stations which previously required a paper or eTicket.

Once completed, passengers will be able to tap on at every train station across Victoria, as well as on trams and myki-enabled buses.

Passengers who have not reserved a seat for long distance services can buy an unreserved fare at their station with tap and go.

Anyone travelling who would prefer to use a physical myki card will be able to do so.

Concession passengers, seniors and those under 18 should continue using their concession or Youth myki.
