These school holidays, the message is to take a break and avoid driving tired.
Moira Shire has experienced more road deaths and serious injuries than the Victorian average and in response, council has developed a plan which reduces road trauma and improves safety for drivers, passengers, cyclists, and pedestrians.
Council is calling on the community for feedback on a draft version of the road strategy plan, with consultation open until Friday, October 17.
The Transport Accident Commission is urging motorists to avoid driving tired these school holidays, as the number of lives lost on the state’s roads continues to climb.
So far this year, 211 lives have been lost on Victorian roads, which is nine more than the same amount lost this time last year, with 112 of those fatalities happening on regional roads.
The TAC is reminding motorists to slow down, take breaks, avoid driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, wear a seatbelt and put their phone away.
