The Good Friday Appeal not only fundraises for specialised equipment and treatments for this major paediatric hospital in Melbourne, often used by local families, but also distributed throughout regional hospitals in Victoria.
In Tocumwal, fundraising begins a day early with a family‑friendly event at the post office this Thursday.
Running from noon to 4pm, the afternoon will feature children’s entertainment, face painting, mermaid braids, henna tattoos, live music and raffles, with Odesi Coffee on site from 9am.
All proceeds will go directly to the appeal, adding to the region’s long tradition of supporting the Royal Children’s Hospital.
In Finley, volunteers will be hitting the streets from 8.30am on Friday to collect donations.
And co-ordinator Vanessa Kydd is calling for more helpers to join the morning effort.
With the support of her brother Gary Carr, the Finley fundraising team will again be operating from the Con Carr Betta storage shed in Pinnuck St.
And as a thank you, volunteers will receive a limited‑edition 95th anniversary stubby holder. Additional stubby holders can also be purchased for $5.
Before Friday, you can pop in to Con Carr Betta to purchase a raffle ticket for the two donated hampers.
Purple tins are already circulating through local businesses.
Fundraising has also been boosted by the recent auction of a crossbred dairy steer donated by Mrs Kydd and her husband Daniel.
“It sold at the Finley Livestock Exchange for $2953, after levies,” Mrs Kydd said.
“The steer was auctioned by Nathan Everingham, with support from Congrams Livestock Haulage and the saleyards.”
Anyone who can volunteer in Finley on Good Friday is asked to contact Mrs Kydd on 0488 461 658.
