A windy winters day with the breeze giving a 4-goal advantage to the northern end saw the Hoppers take on the Bombers.
The Hoppers were no match coming up against an opponent who had a dominant ruckman, strong on ballers and a system of play which moved the ball wide to the wings then headed straight home. Bigger was superb all day, Connell battled hard against a high-quality opponent, Wolfe was strong in the backline and Tom Elliott backing up from 3 terms in the two’s tried hard.
Best were Bigger, McKimmie and Rae.
Reserves
Waaia 9.8.62 defeated Rennie 7.6.48.
Started strongly with a 4 goal first term as Phibbs kicked a couple. Rennie then were able to kick 2 more in term 2 including a Jake Walsh blinder and things were looking good.
Term 3 was goal for goal as the Hoppers were unable to take the game away from the locals and that came back to haunt them as Waaia kicked 5 unanswered goals in the final term to get up by 14 points.
Goals: D. Clarke 2, W. Bott 1, C. Jones 1, T. Elliott 1, J. Walsh 1, D. Leadingham 1.

Waaia 0.1.1 defeated by Rennie 15.16.106
Rennie thirds took the 45-minute drive down the Murray Valley Highway to continue their excellent recent form with a convincing win over Waaia.
The young Hoppers shared the ball at will with coach Fountain trying players in some unfamiliar positions.
Twelve different players kicked goals with Kennedy, Slattery, Lovell and Basset kicking multiples.
The half-back line of Tanner, Cope and Dom McInness was still recovering from Richmond’s demoralising defeat at the hands of the West Coast Eagles but they picked themselves back up and proved to once again to be the base where attacking moves start.
Award winners for the day were Clarke, Bromley, Oliver, Murray and Lewis who all played very well and volunteered to play a quarter for the Bombers.
The final score was Rennie 15.16-106 to 0.1-1 Waaia, this reflected Rennie’s dominance but full credit goes to Waaia for giving it their all.
Goals: B. Kennedy 3, J. Brogan 2, L. Slattery 2, M. VanMaanen 1, T. Lovel 1, D. Murray 1, O. Cope 1, L. Kelly 1, H. Hogan 1, D. McInness 1, C. Tanner 1.

Waaia 8.8.56 defeated Rennie 1.1.7.
Great effort by all the kids from the first bounce. Chops took some strong marks in the backline and Cam’s speed down the boundary line helped to move the ball towards the Rennie forward line.
Second quarter saw some strong defensive pressure from Lach and Bradley and some great run out of the centre by Demi and Robbo.
The last quarter and some ‘fresh’ legs from Laynee, Coco and Mia brought some needed speed to the team and resulted in a big goal kicked by Chase P, and a follow up big celebration.
This team is getting better every week and despite a tough game each week still all leave the ground with big grins.
Well done to Chase O and Leah on their first games this week, look forward to seeing big things from these guys coming up.

Waaia 26 defeated by Rennie 60.
Another great win by the girls this week. Their hard work at training is truly paying off.
After a 3 game break, the girls knew they were going to have to work hard to get a strong start and carry it through the rest of the game; and that is exactly what happened.
After the first quarter, the girls were only up by 3 goals, and were able to continuously build from that each quarter.
As a team, the girls fought hard to put defensive pressure over every ball, they chased and backed each other up on every pass and the communication was flowing really nicely across the court.
A great effort by all, and let’s see what the next few rounds bring!
Awards: Wingates – Ella Rhodes, Redback Waste – Steph Munro, Rhodes Family – Abbey Coghill.

Waaia 6 defeated by Rennie 38.
The Hoppers started slow against a tall opposition and with an ankle injury to Heleena in the first quarter Rennie were a bit rattled.
The defence was rock solid however passing choices were wayward. The Hoppers hit their straps in the 2nd half pulling away with a 28 goal half limiting Waaia to 3 goals.
In the end it was a determined effort by everyone.
Awards: Rhodes Family - Ava Vodusek, Papalias - Mia Elliott, Yarrawonga Fish & Chips – Abbey Shoppee.

Waaia 25 defeated Rennie 13.
The Rennie girls had a tough game this week with 3rd vs 4th. It was great to have all 10 girls back this week.
Unfortunately this week Waaia were too strong for the Hopper girls who fought hard but couldn’t complete with the skill and accuracy of Waaia.
The Rennie girls will come back stronger next time and show them what they can do.
