The 2023 dinner kicked off with a speech from YMH General Manager, Nathan Tresize as YMH has been a VicParks Association member and supporter since 1981 and in more recent years is the major sponsor of the annual VicParks Gala Dinner.
He covered a range of significant challenges that the tourism industry has been facing for the past year.
The excitement of the evening rose to new heights when VicParks President David Pratt announced John and Pauline as the 2023 Victorian Caravan Parks Association ‘Industry Legends’ with numerous YMH team members and their loved ones present.
“This endearing and enduring couple have been a part of the Victorian Caravan Park community for over 40 years,” Mr Pratt said.
“Their list of achievements is long and though they do not seek recognition, with their retirement last year, the time is right for this recognition to be given.
“John and Pauline have also developed, owned and operated Residential Land Lease Communities, a role they continue today and I am only sure they will continue to assist in volunteer passion projects to help deliver more social and affordable housing throughout regional Victoria.
“To be recognised as an official Industry Legend the person/s must have made a significant and altruistic contribution to the establishment and growth of the industry over a long period of time which is not an easy task to do.”
The association gave a standing ovation to warmly congratulate John and Pauline on the wonderful recognition and achievement as they took to the stage.
John, on behalf of himself and Pauline, seized the opportunity to express gratitude towards the association for recognizing their achievements.
“I recall that Pauline and I realized when we became Parks owners and operators, we needed access to more industry information, leading us to become members of the Victorian Caravan Parks Association (VicParks),” John said.

“We have recently bought a caravan, and a lot of friends have said ‘you can buy a lot of hotel nights with the cost of a caravan’ but there is one thing that is missing, and that is the connection with your neighbours and community.
“That has been our mantra all the way along.
“We are really enjoying it and thank everybody. We are truly honoured.”
John and Pauline were fortunate enough to have their family members, including grandchildren, witness their well-deserved recognition within the industry they have dedicated their lives to for over forty years.
“Upon reflection, Pauline and I were overwhelmed at the reception we received from the VicParks Conference Delegates; it was quite a humbling experience for us both considering we are NSW based,” John said.
“Our journey began in 1981 with the purchase of Lakeside Caravan Park Mulwala.
“YMH is also a very proud sponsor of VicParks, and the Annual Conference provides us the opportunity to give back to an industry that has served us well over the journey as both Park Operators on suppliers to the industry.”
