Tungamah Primary School students now have a quaint multi-purpose space to work with visiting allied health professionals as well as staff having a new administration office.
The school received $37,120 from the Victorian Government towards the internal upgrades to create multi-purpose spaces for students and allied health professionals which was made possible through the Minor Capital Works Fund 20-21.
Tungamah Primary School Principal Gemma Whinray said that the school was grateful for the money they received for the upgrades and what a difference it makes.
“It is nice to walk into the school now and it feels new,” Ms Whinray said.
“The entry only received a new coat of paint but it brings everything together.
“Our new admin area has been completely refurbished with new flooring, cabinetry and paint.
“We also have a new sensory space which is a nice little space that we made sure felt warm and comforting and can be used for a number of reasons.
“If a child just needs some downtime away from others, when we have differing services come into the school that work with the children or differing meetings between children and staff can occur in this space.
“Throughout a lot of the school we also have new doors that have almost full-length glass in them so we can still observe what is going on from say the sensory space if we are in the staff room.
“I also didn’t have much of an office space myself but now I do which is great if we have parents coming in and wanting to have a chat without being disturbed.”
The Minor Capital Works Fund supports small-scale priority building projects to improve the learning environment, condition or character of Victorian schools.
To be eligible, Tungamah Primary School had to apply explaining the scope of works that needed to be completed under two funding streams.
“We stretched the money as much as we could but we are happy with the upgrades we have received,” Ms Whinray said.
“It was important for us that locals did all the work, to keep them in business
“We also want to say a massive thank you to our maintenance man Neil Fry and cleaner Debbie Hayes who helped substantially with the works and for all they do for the school throughout the year.
“We are very happy with it all.”
