Uneven playing fields for rec reserves

Swinging for the fences: Rochester Recreation Reserve committee of management chair Brendan Martin has revealed the organisation may be able to avoid asking Campaspe Shire for any funding support if DEECA funds are secured, which could in turn influence an SRV grant application later in the year.

MANDATORY DOCUMENTS MISSING

A Victorian government spokesperson confirmed late on Monday that Campaspe Shire Council’s application for Rochester Recreation Reserve Moon Oval Lighting Project had been unsuccessful.

“The application for Rochester Recreation Reserve Moon Oval Lighting Project was deemed ineligible due to the absence of mandatory supporting documentation,” the spokesperson said.

“We would welcome further discussions with Campaspe Shire Council regarding future funding opportunities for the Rochester Recreation Reserve Moon Oval Lighting Project.

“The Andrews Labor Government has invested more than $18.8 million into seven local community sport and active recreation infrastructure projects in partnership with Campaspe Shire Council since 2014.

“This includes $100,000 towards the Rochester Netball Lighting and Court Compliance project and $100,000 towards the Rochester Lawn Tennis Hard court and Lighting Project.”

The comments came after a press release was issued on the previous Friday (June 9) announcing the 11 successful Country Football and Netball program grant recipients.

– Campaspe Shire director infrastructure Kate Lemon told the Campaspe News on Friday that the submission made to the Country Football and Netball Program was complete.

She said the “mandatory supporting documentation” referred to in the statement as missing was council’s commitment of $458,000 to the project.

“The submission was complete, other than council not committing to the $458,000,” she said, explaining council officers were only acting on the instructions of council to apply for the funds.
