As part of the service’s Big Water Build, works will kick off in Cohuna early next year, seeing a new pump station, pipes and systems that clean water using ultraviolet light and powdered carbon installed.
The upgrades will ensure the service continues to provide clean drinking water and meet the needs of the surrounding communities.
Works in Echuca and Goornong will follow, building on recent and continuing water and sewer network upgrades in Bendigo.
Echuca’s water treatment plant will be upgraded to boost its capacity and water security, along with the maintenance of buildings and roads.
The significant investment across Coliban Water’s catchment aims to meet customer needs, and protect the region against the impacts of climate change, population growth and ageing assets.
Managing Director Damian Wells said the upgrades would improve facilities that provide drinking water to and manage wastewater from households.
“These essential upgrades will make sure we can continue to provide clean drinking water to our towns and suburbs,” he said.
“We supply more than 22,256 megalitres of drinking water to over 180,000 customers a year.”
The service is using a long-term partnership approach to deliver the upgrades, encouraging contractors to buy and employ locally.
