The expansion covers the full V/Line network, with lines switching on progressively.
The service will hit the Shepparton Line on Sunday, August 30.
Benalla and Euroa stations will be added on November 22, following upgrade works by ARTC.
Works are also under way to install 106 new readers across 37 V/Line stations that previously required a paper or eTicket.
Once the works are completed, passengers will be able to tap on at every station across Victoria, as well as on trams and myki-enabled buses.
State Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes said the changes would simplify the travel experience.
“We’re making journeys simpler so that passengers can spend less time worrying about tickets and more time on getting where they need to be,” Ms Symes said.
Passengers without a seat reservation on long-distance services can purchase an unreserved fare using tap and go at their station.
The option to use a physical myki card still stands.
Public Transport Minister Vicki Ward said the tap and go option was making travel easier and more convenient for passengers.
“Victorians are enjoying quicker and more convenient ways to get on board, which is why we’re expanding tap and go across the regional rail network,” Ms Ward said.
Concession passengers, seniors and those under-18 should continue using their concession or youth myki.
