The ski club’s recently enlarged Malibu Deck had up to 200 people responsibly trying the new beer which was launched last October.
Fimmel, who was also seen out and about promoting the beers brand in several other venues around Yarrawonga Mulwala, teamed up with Masterchef’s Andy Allen to create Travla, a 3.5% ABV with just 89 calories per can.
The pair sought the expertise of brewer Blake Bowden of Dromana to create a low-carb, lower-alcohol beer that still tasted “really good”.
The result is a clean, crisp lager with mild fruitiness and a smooth bitterness.
“We want to buck the localisation trend and create a beer that represents this country as a whole,” Fimmel said.
“We believe it’s time for a new Australian beer that, in time, can be taken to the world, or it to be an overseas ambassador.”
Fimmel, Xavier Campbell and Andrew Walker were promoting their new Travla beer last Friday at Mulwala Water Ski Club.
The trio are from Echuca where they grew up as mates, with Andy Allen who now resides in Newcastle.
“Travla is in 750 supermarket outlets nationwide,” 2016-retired Carlton footballer of 202 games Walker said. “Sales are going really well.”
It’s a powerful team promoting the beer with former Essendon CEO Ellis also lining up.
The name Travla was selected in view of the quartet’s travel of great distances and they loved travelling to Mulwala Water Ski Club.
“I came up with the idea and the name two years ago,” Fimmel said.
Fimmel used to be in the area when aged 18-years. “It’s my first time in the ski club,” the now 43-year-old said. “It’s a beautiful area and an amazing club. This whole area is just beautiful.”
He was mobbed by fans inside the ski club and on the Malibu Deck and was most obliging regarding photographs with and signing autographs for his fans.
President of the Mulwala Water Ski Club Matt Holgate welcomed the Travla team to the club and said the club was very pleased to be chosen to promote the new beer.
Club CEO Peter Duncan also welcomed the most favourable comments made by Fimmel about the club, the lagoon area, Lake Mulwala and indeed the whole area.
“It was a very successful promotion of the Travla beer,” he added.
