Mulwala Water Ski Club’s $2.2 million redevelopment of the waterfront precinct has helped position Mulwala as a significant regional drawcard bringing both traditional and new visitor demographics to the area.

Featuring a world class laser light show projected onto Lake Mulwala, extension of a fully accessible dining and viewing Malibu Deck and a new all-abilities play space, the November 2022-completed project was officially opened last Friday, February 17.
“It gives me great pleasure to officially open this wonderful project. Congratulations to all,” State Member for Albury Justin Clancy, a strong supporter of the project, told 50 invited guests on the impressive 50m x 10m grey-charcoal coloured deck.
Before the official opening, Mr Clancy visited the world class standard big twin lake Max Kirwan Ski Park, 8kms from the ski club and asked waterskiing icon and Club Ski Co-ordinator Peter O’Neill how the massive progress all came about.
“Through the passion of Max Kirwan,” Peter told me.
“For the passion within the club, the board, the community is great and makes for a really successful ski club.”

Chief Executive Officer of Mulwala Water Ski Club Peter Duncan welcomed guests who included Sports Minister for NSW Alister Henskens, and Councillors Peter Elliott (Moira Shire) and Andrew Kennedy (Federation Council).
“Today, we officially open the projects that were completed with the financial help of the NSW Government and the support of those here today,” Mr Duncan said.
Mulwala Water Ski Club President Matt Holgate said it was a privilege having the NSW Sports Minister in attendance and outlined the club’s background which included a 40-year anniversary celebration last December; in 2019 the upgrade of the Max Kirwin Ski Park to world class standard - with the assistance of Mr Clancy and the NSW State Government.
The upgrade allowed the club to attract the World Show Ski Titles in 2020, only to be cancelled due to Covid.
“When we were able to start competition again in March 2022, we hosted the National Barefoot Titles, National 3 Event Titles, Victorian Barefoot Titles and F1 Power Boat Series,” Mr Holgate said.

“Each of these events brought competitors and spectators from all over Australia, New Zealand and the Asia Pacific region. This would not have been possible without the upgrade to the Max Kirwan Ski Park.
“On the back of the success we have had with the upgrade to the Max Kirwan Ski Park, we have embarked on an upgrade and extension to our waterfront precinct – again with a view to attract additional tourism.
“This all-inclusive development will welcome all visitors, young and old, with something to offer, for every interest.”
Mr Holgate complimented many people on the success of the waterfront precinct, including club marketing manager Cathy Randall who submitted the successful grant proposal.
