For Campaspe Dental Care dentist Victoria Sadler, helping patients feel confident in their smile is more than a professional calling; it is something deeply personal, rooted in her own orthodontic journey as a teenager.

“When I was 12 or 13, I realised that my crooked little kid’s teeth weren't straightening out,” Dr Victoria said.
“By getting braces, it really turned my confidence around. I was like, that is what I want to do for other people.”
At Campaspe Dental Care, Dr Victoria has noticed a familiar and concerning trend ‒ many mothers are quietly letting their own dental health slip down the priority list.
“I think the one thing I hear from many mums is, ‘Oh, I haven’t had a dental appointment since I had my oldest child and they are eight now,’” she said.

The clinic takes a proactive and welcoming approach to supporting expectant and new mothers in keeping on top of their dental health.
“When we do know that somebody is planning to have children or they are pregnant, we would say to still come in for your check-up,” Dr Victoria said.
“And you are more than welcome to bring in your little ones to help introduce them to having their teeth checked and a visit to the dentist.”
Dr Victoria also highlights that the hormonal changes that come with pregnancy can have a real and noticeable impact on oral health.
“A lot of women say that I am flossing my teeth at the moment and my gums are bleeding,” Dr Victoria said.
“It is normal for your gums to bleed a little bit more as long as it is not physically hurting you.”
Dr Victoria is keen to remind all women, regardless of where they are in life, that the basics of good dental care go a long way.
“Brushing twice a day and flossing is the crux of it. Make sure when you go to the dentist, ask them to show you how to floss,” she said.
Basic dental care such as brushing twice a day and flossing is crucial for good oral health, with Dr Victoria emphasising the importance of learning proper flossing techniques. Pictured are Dr Victoria Sadler and Tracey Doble.

Oral Health Victoria reassures that routine dental care during pregnancy is safe, though it recommends holding off on certain procedures during the first trimester.
The organisation also underscores why keeping up with good oral hygiene during pregnancy matters, pointing to research linking gum disease with complications such as premature births and low birth weight.
The health advice from Oral Health Victoria for pregnant women includes:
– Your growing baby’s calcium demands are high, so you should increase your calcium consumption to compensate. Eat calcium-enriched foods such as dairy or soy alternatives.
– Eat a nutritious diet every day, including fruits, vegetables, grains, beans and lean meats.
– Try not to eat too many sweet foods.
