Women often put their own health needs on the backburner while caring for and managing the health needs of their partners, children, parents, neighbours and other family members. We can’t look after others if we are not taking care of ourselves.
On Friday 4 September, the health promotion team from Yarrawonga Health collaborated with the Yarrawonga and Border Branch of CWA (Victoria) to ‘Craft, Health Check and Connect’. The event encouraged CWA members and local women to have some fun and make connections with other women, learn some useful health information, have a free health check and share their art and craft skills.
It doesn’t matter what level of craft skill you have – we can ‘do it anyway’, the theme of Women’s Health Week 2026.
The daily themes of the week are Fuel, Move, Rest, Breathe and Connect. Yarrawonga Health presented on practical nutrition guidance (Fuel) to those gathered. Everyone is encouraged to fit movement into their busy day and to take opportunities to breathe – a break of just a few seconds or a night of better sleep can improve mental health.
Craft is also a great conversation and friendship starter, providing an opportunity to share similar interests, learn new skills and continue lifelong learning.
Craft is held on the first and third Fridays of every month from 10am at the CWA Hall in Hovell Street. Newcomers and visitors are always welcome. BYO lunch, BYO craft – finished or unfinished – learn a new skill or share an old one. Craft something for yourself, friends or family, or for donation to charity. All while having fun and building friendship and connection.
Women’s Health Week is also a great opportunity to find out what health and wellbeing support is available locally. Yarrawonga Health has two upcoming programs that may be of interest to women who meet the eligibility criteria:
Move Well is for those living with diabetes, heart disease or a lung condition.
The Cancer Wellness Program, endorsed by Cancer Council Victoria, is for those not currently undergoing active treatment.
For more information or to register your interest, contact Yarrawonga Health’s Intake team on 03 5743 8111.
The Moira Group of CWA (Victoria) is seeking expressions of interest in forming a night branch in Yarrawonga. There are already 2 relatively new night branches in the Moira Group (Benalla Night Roses and Rutherglen). Open Information session for those who may be interested in starting a night branch is planned for Wednesday September 23rd from 5.30 to about 7pm at the CWA rooms (21 Hovell St, Yarrawonga)
ACWW (associated country women of the world) 2026 is the international year of the woman farmer. Many women in Yarrawonga and Mulwala are either currently involved in or have a background in farming and Agribusiness.
