Cody Howard and Corey McIntosh have both joined the Richmond Institute of Sport Leadership (RISL).
RISL is a unique program run in conjunction by the Richmond Football Club and Swinburne University, aimed at developing the next generation of leaders within the sports industry.
As well as receiving a diploma in Sports Development from Swinburne University, the pair will be exposed to elite level contacts and networks within the football club and offered various placements and work opportunities.
In the past RISL students have assisted in gameday operations, membership sales and sports science for the club.
McIntosh and Howard also assisted management of the Richmond Football Club’s community camp to the Border and will work in match day operations for the Tigers’ ANZAC Eve blockbuster against Melbourne.
Countless opportunities will also be offered through the clubs fully owned subsidiary business, Aligned Leisure that manages four major sporting complexes in the area.
Former international basketballer and three-time Olympic silver medalist, Lauren Jackson, will be a key part of the program.
Jackson is one of various special guests and ambassadors that students across the RISL program can meet throughout 2019.
Fellow Olympian, Lydia Lassila (athletic performance), world champion Australian Diamonds head coach Lisa Alexander (coaching), Richmond Football Club president, Peggy O’Neal (leadership) and former Richmond Football Club player and current CEO Brendon Gale (management) will each deliver keynote presentations for course modules.
Head of Education and Training at the Richmond Football Club, Damien Villarosa said that RISL provided an unmatched student experience.
“We take great pride in being given the opportunity to provide students such a great environment to learn and to also play a vital role in each students’ individual development,” he said.
“There has been a huge number of success stories from our two previous Melbourne intakes and we have no doubt that there will be many more successes within this year’s group.”
Two additional Yarrawonga locals Brianna Magro and Rick Walker were also accepted into the program but withdrew due to further employment opportunities.
