The Magpies crashed to 6 for 11 from 11 overs.
Only some defensive batting from the Magpies lower order allowed them to limp to their 36 over batting limit in the process finishing at 8 for 69.
Young gun Caleb Mitchell bowled well taking 2 for 13 from 6 overs and Ned Mullins claimed 1 for 12 from 7 overs.
Captain Brendan Lewis had figures of 0 for 12 off 4 overs; and Jack Kennedy 0 for 8 off 3 overs.

B Grade
On a sensational day for cricket, B Grade hosted Benalla Bushrangers at Lonsdale Reserve, Mulwala. Even with the heavy traffic on the bridge everyone made it on time and the game started as scheduled. With the pitch flat, hard and well grassed, the Bushies won the toss and elected to bat.
The Lakers started well bowling good line and length to the Bushies bats, restricting the Bushies to a run an over or less was outstanding from Rory Bartlett and Bailey Frauenfelder.
Bartlett made the breakthrough in consecutive overs and the Bushies were finding it tough at 2/6. Young Lach Phillips and veteran Gus Browning continued the tight bowling, Phillips bowling with good pace took the next wicket in the 17th and the Bushies were 3/17.
Things didn’t get much better from there for the Bushies as Captain Browning introduced young leg spinner Jobe Kennedy to the attack.
Kennedy bowled a sensational spell of spin bowling, having five wickets in his first three overs including two in two balls to have the Bushies in dire trouble at 8/34.
Jobe finished with the sensational figures of 6/11 from 6 overs with 3 maidens.
Rory Bartlett closed out the innings with another wicket to finish with 3/5 from 7.3 overs and 4 maidens. The Bushies all out in the 31st over for 45 runs.
Not a big target for the Lakers to chase but they still needed to bat solidly to get the win.
Captain Browning opted for youth and experience in his openers with Zac Fraser and veteran Justin O’Brien taking to the crease for the chase.
The openers took to the task with fervour pouncing on anything loose or short.
The Lakers rattling the score along and managing to pass the Bushies score in the seventh over without the loss of a wicket, but soon after Fraser fell for a well compiled 31 which included four boundaries.
It was now time for the Lakers to get some good time in the middle. Lach Phillips and Jobe Kennedy backed up their bowling efforts with the bat contributing 27 and 32no respectively.
Meanwhile the old veteran O’Brien anchored the innings racking up a half century, falling for 53 in the 34th over.
The Lakers finishing with 7/168 from their 36 overs. A good win for the young B Grade side.
Next week sees the B Grade head off to Bright to take on Ovens Valley Utd.

But it was again left to the young brigade with Austin Willett solid as a rock with 32 valuable runs.

Delatite had to outscore the Lakers but credit to the Lakers bowlers it didn’t take long for the wickets to fall.
After the first wicket fell with the score on 11, Delatite were quickly 5 for 23.
A short-lived challenge was launched which gained 56 runs before the 6th wicket fell.
It took the Lakers just 25 over to dismiss Delatite all out for 87.
The opening bowlers in Reece Norman and Jyda House wreaked havoc with Norman economical figures of 1 for 26 off 8 overs and adding the pressure as House dismantled the Delatite batsmen with 5 for 5 off 6.3 overs.
The younger players were given control for the Lakers bowling and didn’t disappoint; alongside House and Norman, Jet Peters took 1 for 22 of 6 overs to go with his 52 runs; Austin Willett added 1 for 29 off 4 overs alongside his 32 runs.

Under 16
Benalla won the toss and batted and whilst all the Bulls boys bowled well, Benalla were up to the task and took their total to 4 -174 off their allotted 42 overs.
Lachlan Phillips took a wicket, getting through the defense of his opponent and Daniel O’Brien came on to bowl to take 3 wickets in 2 overs.
He dismissed the two set batsmen with an outstanding one handed grab by Hunter Frauenfelder at backward square leg, then a great catch by Geoffrey Montgomery to dismiss their captain who was on 68.
Daniel then clean bowled his next victim in a fine display of line and length bowling.
Yarra bulls are well in this game but will need to knuckle down this weekend, whilst working the singles to keep the scoreboard ticking over frequently.
Under 14
The picturesque Maday Hills cricket oval in Beechworth hosted the Lakers Under 14’s for their second game for the season.

Batting at number 3 Jobe Fraser was able to capitalise on this start with a well-made half century.
He was well supported by Nate Sheridan who hit some powerful drives in a strong innings.

Mitch Adkins hit the shot of the day with a powerful hit to mid-wicket that rocketed to the boundary whilst Jeremy Baer, Kade Mitchell and Nyall Tahir worked hard to see of the opening bowlers at the end of the innings, their work ensured a competitive total of 3 for 177.
