The regatta has been going for a few years now and has been run as a lead up to the Moodamere Regatta in January which attracts rowers from all over the state. Its main focus is to give the junior kids and new club members some race day experience. There were participants from Wahgunyah, Rutherglen and Albury as well as a large home town contingent from Corowa.
Lucynda Mansfield rowed in a composite crew with some Corowa kids and managed to take home a medal in the under 15s quad sculls. After a great start they seem to have controlled the race over the coarse which was under the old traffic bridge in front of the club house. The crews rowed into a very strong current which made it feel a lot longer than 350 meters
Next up, Lucynda then teamed up with her father Patrick in the mixed double sculls and came home with another win. Another strong performance saw them lead from start to finish and in the end, crossed the line with good six length win in from of the other crews from Corowa.
The last event of the day was a bit of a novelty race with an Octoeight. This is racing eight that has been set up with eight sculling seat rather than the traditional sweep oared arrangement. This was a time trialed event with five crews competing. There was lots of variety in the crews with kids, men, women, experienced and novice all thrown in together. A lot of fun was had with the eventual winners being a combination of all clubs that took part in the day’s events.
To cap off the day, Santa made an appearance to give out some presents and everyone settled back and enjoyed a barbecue and some refreshments. A great day and thanks to the Corowa Rowing Club. For anyone interested in having a go at rowing can contact Patrick on 0427 632 322.
