Letter to editor — No to nuclear

Renewable energy has many advantages: it’s clean, decentralised, it’s available now and it’s cheap and has a proven record of cheaper technologies year in year out.

The real intent of this nuclear policy is very similar to the Coalition’s “carbon capture and storage” projects (billions of dollars of taxpayer funding with little chance of success), which was no more than a ploy to delay the introduction of renewable energy to satisfy the mining industry and other financial supporters.

Voters in Nicholls should send a clear message to Sam Birrell and the Nationals that we don’t appreciate the imposition of this hastily developed policy without any local consultation and vote no to nuclear.

I make no recommendation as to who to vote for, just vote no to nuclear.
