Police said the driver of a heavy rigid dog trailer truck was travelling east on Jubilee Rd and allegedly did not see the other vehicle as he entered the intersection with Lemnos North Rd at 2.15pm.
When the truck driver spotted the SUV travelling north on Lemnos North Rd he sped up so the SUV would not hit the truck trailer, police said.
The SUV hit the coupling between the two truck trailers.
The driver of the SUV – an 83-year-old man – was taken to hospital for observation, police said.
The Katamatite man driving the truck was not injured.
Police, CFA and ambulance officers attended the scene.
