Rochester Sports Museum hunting for volunteers

By Jared Prestwidge

ROCHESTER residents are encouraged to apply for a volunteer position at the newly opened Rochester Sports Museum.

The museum is hosting two volunteer information sessions on Thursday, December 12 for those interested to learn more about how to get involved.

Successful applicants will be required to perform reception duties, take admission fees and be able to provide information on Rochester to visitors.

Shifts only run for three hours and no computer skills are needed.

Rochester Sports Museum project manager Sam Watkins said they were looking for anyone who was a sports nut and passionate about promoting their town.

“We’re just putting the call out to see if there was anyone who would like to assist in the museum so we can secure it’s longevity,” she said.

“You can meet new people, help promote Rochester, support the Lions Club and promote what our sports museum is all about.

“Rochester Sports Museum is a fantastic new attraction for the town … all of the feedback we’ve been getting from our volunteers and visitors has been fantastic.”

Volunteer John Boyd said helping out at the museum had been constantly rewarding.

“You’re working with like-minded people who want to benefit the community … it’s tremendous to be here,” he said.

“I would recommend anyone to do volunteer work if you have the time.”

The information sessions run from 2 pm to 3 pm and 7 pm to 8 pm at 22-26 Moore St, Rochester.
