The Titans play Parramatta away on Sunday, searching for their first win in the NSW capital since the 30-12 triumph over Sydney Roosters on March 28 last year.
Sydney has historically not been a happy hunting ground for Gold Coast sides but coach Josh Hannay is not daunted.
"I am motivated by that," Hannay said.
"We need to walk towards that challenge and work out why it has been an issue in the past.
"I spent a lot of time in North Queensland and we used to travel a lot. Once you turn that tide and start to win on the road you get a lot of belief. We need to turn that tide and go to Sydney and make it a happy place and not a place that we fear."
Kini has not had the impact he did in 2024 when he was the club's player of the year, despite just playing 16 games, and starred for New Zealand in the Pacific Championships.
Last year his season was cruelled by a neck injury that restricted the 21-year-old to six matches.
This season he has struggled under the high ball, although Hannay has made the point that he wants the rest of the team to do a better job defensively to ensure the opposition is not putting up so many attacking kicks near the Titans tryline.
"People forget he is still learning the ropes about the position of fullback," Hannay said.
"Every quality player goes through it, as has Reece Walsh at Brisbane in the developmental period. All the great ones do."
Kini is learning the rigours of the NRL and he is not a tall man, so opposition sides have been utilising the bomb against him.
"He has been isolated a bit back there and I spoke last week about how we can negate that as a football side. We all have a role to play," Hannay said.
"What "K" is going though is what all young players do and the good ones, like he is, work hard and get over it."
Kini was doing extras under the high ball after training on Friday in a sign of his mentality.
"No-one works harder than 'K". No-one cares more than him and no-one is more honest or accountable," Hannay said
"I don't agree with this, but he feels like he has let the group down at the moment. I don't think that is the case but that is just how much he cares and wants to work as hard as he can to improve."
