Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra’s annual concert this weekend

By Shepparton News

Music lovers are in for a treat this weekend when the Goulburn Valley Concert Orchestra presents its annual concert program, packed with melodies from Mendelssohn to The Beatles.

The orchestra will be joined by local choir, 36 Degrees South, to bring a selection of well-known Bach music and Handel’s famous Hallelujah Chorus to life.

Also on the program will be Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries and Strauss favourites Radetzky March, Tritsch Polka and the vigorous Thunder and Lightning Polka.

Soloists this year include the orchestra’s own teenage talent Liesl Parnell — last year’s winner of the Shepparton Young Instrumentalists Award — and Steven Sargant, who will perform a movement of Hummel’s trumpet concerto with the orchestra.

The audience will also hear the familiar voices of Simon Oakes, Felicity Oakes McCowan and Renee Rankin during the concert.

The GVCO’s annual concert is at Shepparton’s Eastbank Centre on Welsford St from 7.30pm on Saturday. Tickets are available from Riverlinks, phone 58329511 or visit www.riverlinksvenues.com.au

Ticket prices: full — $28, concession — $22, under-18 — $13.
