A Grade
Katunga 54 defeated Rennie 21
Katunga were strong from the outset. The Hopper defence end tried all day with Lexi and Tiarnah up against a strong tall and fast opposition.
Brooke K and Ella battled up the other end against a tall and strong defence but persisted and were rewarded with some great passages of play and subsequent goals.
Maddi was thrown in the attack end which was out her comfort zone, but it was great to see her have a go. Well done!
Thank you to Alainah and Celine who sat on the bench and were rewarded with a final quarter and offered some great options.
Awards: Ella Rhodes - ClubMulwala Award, Tiarnah Keely - One Zach Award.
B Grade
Katunga 87 defeated Rennie 27
The B grade girls had a few players unavailable this week and were reliant on many of the under 17 girls.
The B Grade appreciate their dedication and how hard it is to play 8 quarters of netball.
It turned out to be a tough game for the girls and Katunga were very strong and had talent all over the court.
Early in the second quarter Danielle fell to the ground and acquired a bad head injury.
This really startled the girls and took a bit of time to regroup.
Thankfully Brooke was able to step in and fill in the goal shooter position and provide some great communication over the court.
Scarlett and Sophie O’Dwyer were fabulous in goals and they got some great goals.
Congratulations to Sophie O’Dwyer on her first senior game this week, the first of many.
The Hoppers were challenged with the strong attack end of Katunga. Celine and Brooke fought hard down in defence and never gave up.
Laney and Sophia Shaw provided an option in attack, unfortunately the score does not reflect the effort.
Awards: One Zach Award - Scarlette York, ClubMulwala Award - Sophie O’Dwyer.
C Grade
Katunga 48 defeated Rennie 31
Awards: ClubMulwala Award – Laura Nunn, Miss Dolly Award – Cait Knuckey.
C Res
Katunga 43 defeated Rennie 18
C Res girls put up a good fight this week. Short on a few players the Hoppers had to put a few girls in positions they weren’t entirely comfortable with.
Great defence from Jordynn Ednie, who is really taking to the game well.
Jess Butcher being put in defence, taking it on like a champ.
Tanya Rhodes played consistent 3 quarters in goal shooter. The girls are improving, learning to work together as a team.
Awards: Club Mulwala Award – Ash Poidevin, Publican Daughter – Jasmine Burns.
Under 17s
Katunga 26 defeated by Rennie 62
What a game! Coming into this round, the girls were filled with nerves and emotions were high.
This showed after the first quarter when the score showed the Hoppers were down by 1 goal.
After some shuffling of positions and intense positive communication, the girls were able to lift and play a smooth and effortless game of netball that showcased the diversity and skill on the court. Every single player in this game had a role to fill and were able to complete it.
From accurate shooting and rotating in the ring by Sophie O’Dwyer and Ella Rhodes, to swift and sharp drives from Mia Doherty, Sophia Shaw and Scarlett York, through to the communication and defensive pressure and teamwork from Abbey Coghill, Steph Munro, Hannah Shoppee and Brooke Knight.
Amazing win and a beautiful game to watch. Well done girls.
Awards: Rhodes Family Award – Abbey Coghill, Redback Waste Award – Ella Rhodes.
Under 15s
Katunga 15 defeated by Rennie 38
The 1st quarter was very competitive with the play going from one end to the other without score.
The 2nd quarter was more settled which gave many opportunities which the Hoppers were able to capitalise on.
Mia Wheaton played well in GA and provided a lot of opportunities in the attack end.
Coco Vodusek intercepted many balls in defence which were finished well by Lucy Bassett in GS.
Great team effort all girls contributed well the whole game.
Awards: Coco Vodusek - Wingates Award, Lucy Bassett - Rhodes Family Award.
Under 13s
Katunga 28 defeated Rennie 26
This week the little Hoppers were faced with a tough week but they didn’t let that shake them.
They fought hard to come back and were on their way when they were thrown yet another curveball with injuries.
All the girls picked their heads up and turned the game around with the defenders fighting every second to get as many intercepts as possible and the shooters holding up their end with their accuracy as always.
With a loss comes a learning curve and these girls have learnt a lot in 3 weeks and will continue to every week.
Awards: Rhodes Family Award – Sophie Coghill, Hardluck Award – Iris Elliott.
U13s development
