On a lousy day in Deni the Hoppers kicked the first 2 goals of the game.
It was clear that just bunting the ball forward was going to outdo quality teamwork with Bigger and Fountain winning clearances and Mangan and Porter goaling.
Strathy hit back with 2 late goals, but the Hoppers were 3 up.
With the Dogs kicking with the sleet, the Rennie defence were outstanding in term 2 keeping their opposition goalless led by Wolfe and Brooks, helped by Kennedy pushing back from his wing and McCallum’s fearlessness.
Hoppers by 2 at the long break. The game oscillated between half forward lines in term 3 then Sudholz and Mangan were able to goal and grab a small break.
But Strathy lifted and were able to generate ball from half back and were able to snatch the lead going into the final break.
As a melee broke out, the umpires chose to single out a Rennie player and this left them a player short for the final term.
They fought manfully but it was a road too long and poor umpiring finally wore the Hoppers down. A solid year a disappointing end.
Best were Kennedy and Mangan.

The ressies lost in extra time by 9 points to Blighty at Deni on Sunday. Blighty kicked with the breeze and were in front through to half time.
Both teams lifted after the break, but a poor goal umpiring decision came back to haunt the Hoppers.
30 players lined up for a kick in after a Redeye ran into an open goal and missed, but to the amazement of everyone the goal umpire paid a goal.
The Rennie players kept having a crack, but in the middle of the last term Blighty had a 3-goal lead. Again the Hoppers lifted and they were a point up but the Redeyes scrambled a point with less than 5 seconds to go. Unfortunately Rennie couldn’t score in extra time.
