Friends in Common are a group who support families in our local community who have been touched by cancer.
It was fantastic to see so many players supporting the fundraiser, with amazing weather making playing conditions near perfect for club members and guests who travelled from Wangaratta, Twin Cities, Echuca, Shepparton and Wodonga clubs, with 32 players taking to the courts.
Playing four games each, the competition between participants was very tight with the overall winner on the day being Jan Kelly from Wangaratta, followed closely by Trevor Peters from Echuca as runner up.
A sensational afternoon tea was provided by the local members which made for a wonderful end of the day.
The raffle of a beautiful orchid was won by Laurelle Spring.
A presentation will be made to Friends in Common at the croquet club on Tuesday, September 24 at 11.30am.
The committee wishes to thank everyone for their support and hard work, making this a very special and successful event.
Thursday, September 12 competition was excellent with 11 players on court and the winner was Cheryl O’Dwyer with 18 hoops, followed by Lesley Dean and Nancy Brooks as equal runners-up on 17 hoops apiece.
Lucky Friday 13th club play was a wonderful day with 21 players on court and with 16 hoops.
Jen Schneider was the winner followed very closely by Michael Oliver and Kaye Black on 15 hoops each. Perfect spring conditions again on Saturday saw 18 players compete for really close fought games with Margaret Quail winning the day on 18 hoops.
Congratulations to all players who came to the club this week and the YMCC also love seeing members who are currently unable to play dropping in for morning tea, sharing lots of laughs and great conversation.
There were many amazing shots played across the week including an excellent jump shot executed by Wendy Wiltshire, well done Wendy!
Yes, the club do talk about the weather a lot, but we had brilliant playing conditions this week and being located in the beautiful and tranquil surrounds of the YMGCR makes playing croquet at the club a must-do activity!
Come on down and join in the fun and competition.
