But it simply would not happen without the support of sponsors in particular Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and Business (YMTB) and the Mulwala WaterSki Club.
YMTB started the event eight years ago with Triathlon Victoria and in 2016 Sacred Heart School’s Splash and Dash Committee took over the event with the support of Mulwala Waterski Club.
The triathlon part of the festival now takes place on the Saturday afternoon from the Mulwala Waterski Club and the usual Splash and Dash have resumed their normal format on Sunday morning on the Yarrawonga Foreshore.
Sacred Heart School’s Splash and Dash Committee will for the fourth year run the festival as a community event with the support of Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism and major sponsor, Mulwala Waterski Club.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Tourism Executive Officer Noel Wright is impressed with the progress and is looking forward to this year’s event.
“The event is in its eighth year and attracts many athletes from all over Australia injecting more than $1.2million into the local economy,” Noel Wright said.
“Having the Splash and Dash Committee involved provides an opportunity for the community to stamp their mark on this fantastic event which we want to keep here for years to come.”
With the support of the Mulwala Water Ski Club the event village has been shifted to the Ski Club harbour which features entertainment and an even bigger carnival atmosphere.
Mulwala Waterski Club Chief Executive Officer Peter Duncan said the club has been proud to be associated with such a great event.
“This multisport festival brings a great economic benefit to the community and I congratulate the Splash and Dash committee who have worked extremely hard to grow this event,” Peter Duncan said.
“We are not only proud to be hosting this world class event but are also looking forward to also hosting the World Show Ski Championships in March next year,” Peter said.
The popular Yarrawonga Mulwala Multisport Festival (YMMF) won the rights to be a qualifying event for the 2020 ITU World Triathlon Series Grand Final and World Championships to be held in Canada.
Multisport committee member Jared Loughnan said the qualification was a significant win for YMMF as it builds to be the best regional triathlon in Australia.
“Being a qualifying event for the world championships is great for the area,” Jared said.
“It raises the profile of the Yarrawonga Mulwala event and attracts athletes to the event that have never been to the area.”
This year’s event will be held on the October 19 and 20 with the triathlon events being held on the Saturday and the Foreshore Family Run Runs being held on the Sunday morning. For more information go to www.ymmf.com.au or like the events Facebook page for updates.
