The YMCC strives to provide the local community with access to a club that is well run, provides universal access to players, from beginners to elite competitors, strong competition with a mix of fun sporting and recreational activities. Yes, we have a lot of fun.
The committee utilises the broad strategic framework of the VCA to plan the activities it provides for members and the community each year.
President Judi Welch along with committee members felt it important to share a snapshot of that framework and to give some examples of how the YMCC is working within the VCA strategic plan to make croquet a sport of preference in the Yarrawonga Mulwala community.
The VCA Strategic Planning framework 2016-20 is divided into four sections being, Governance, Membership, Image and Capability. How is this locally relevant? What do we do?
Governance -by having an official Committee, all YMCC club business processes and sporting activities are conducted in accordance with specified requirements and are effectively governed.
Membership-The club membership is available to everyone with a range of competitive, social and educational play options on offer weekly.
Information on club activities is transparent and there is a real enthusiasm to also attract younger members of the community to the sport of croquet. Student groups have increased this year and the club encourages community members of all ages to join.
Image-VCA is promoting the image of croquet as a sport of choice into the future for younger community members and through the support of the Yarrawonga Chronicle and Sacred Heart College, the YMCC has raised the profile of croquet in the community through newspaper articles, newsletters and an increased presence in schools.
The club hopes more schools will participate next year.
Capability-Official coaching is always tricky in regional areas, however, the YMCC is examining how it can improve its capability through increasing coaching availability in the club.
The committee looks forward to researching how members who are interested in coaching could pursue further training, brining greater access to expert educational resources into the club and our local community.
There you have it, a snap shot, simply to show that there is a plan behind what we do at the club, as well as having as much healthy competition and fun as possible. Come along and join in.

Play this past week was limited to only two days due to rain! Wonderful, but we need more.
On Tuesday the club had 15 players with Tim Redfern scoring 22 hoops, followed by Lesley Dean and Chris Lloyd on 17 hoops apiece.
Friday 21 players were on court with Margie Wickham and Brian Archer equal winners on 19 hoops. Well done to all players who participated this week.
