In a touching moment pre game, both YMCC and RUBCC players and supporters paid their respects with a minute silence in honour of Gerard Martin. A man who will be forever remembered and will be held in the highest regard at the YMCC.

It was a long-awaited return to cricket for many Lakers cricketers this weekend with A Grade securing a round one victory overs Rovers United Bruck by 57 runs.
After losing the toss and bowling first, the Lakers opening bowlers in Jim Irvine and Corey Mcintosh were made to work in the initial part of the innings with RUB establishing a 36-run partnership without loss combined with some missed catching opportunities in the field from the Lakers.
However, the introduction of Matt McCabe brought the first breakthrough and from here on in, it was a consistent occurrence of wickets for the Lakers.
Left arm bowler Will Sharp continues to show superb growth as a bowler stepping up yet again to claim 3 wickets for the innings including the prized scalp of RUB Zimbabwe recruit Tafadzwa Tsiga.
Brendan Lewis as he does, found a way to contribute with the ball claiming 3 important wickets of his own.
A wicket each to Brock McCabe and Angus McMillan who snared the important wicket of RUB skipper Jacob Schonafinger were also valuable contributors with the ball.
RUB restricted to 9/98 from their 40 overs.
The right- and left-hand combination of Ben Welsh and Ben Irvine commenced the innings with great intent in the run chase for the Lakers.
However, it was Welsh who was the backbone of the innings, batting superbly for his 26 runs before unfortunately being run out.
Gus McMillan, who was deservedly elevated to number 6, batted with great patience and allowed the Lakers to etch closer to the target.
After a late omission prior to the game, Cory Pearn was called up into the A Grade side and did not disappoint, top scoring with a very neat 34 from 46 balls.
Matt McCabe contributed with some late fireworks including a hat trick of boundaries which saw the Lakers comfortably passing RUB score of 98 and ending up with 155 of their own.
The Lakers will now host the Wangaratta Magpies Cricket Club next weekend at Stan Hargreaves Oval at 1pm.
