Prior to commencement of play, Harry Wheeler was presented with his debut playing cap.
Wheeler becomes the 76th player to represent the YMCC at A Grade level.
The YMCC won the toss and had no hesitation in batting.
The duo of Ben’s in Irvine and Welsh commenced the innings and played anything short with contempt.
Combining for 54 runs, they set the tone for the Lakers with Welsh compiling 24.
In a real positive for the local team, the top five batters all made above 24.
Irvine was dismissed for 36; and when Corey McIntosh was joined by Josh Lawrence, they combined for 49 runs with Lawrence adding 28. McIntosh was joined by the debuting Wheeler and the scoring continued with quick singles and great placement of shots.
McIntosh made a game high 43 runs, while Wheeler made 25 only being dismissed late in a chase for runs.
Will Sharp 6 not out and Brendan Lewis 0 not out batted out the 40 overs for a great total of 5 for 167.
Upon resumption from a superb afternoon tea, the Lakers were dominant with the ball taking wickets early to have the Magpies on the back foot.
After taking the first wicket with 22 runs on the board, the Lakers always held control of the game.
Angus McMillan claimed the first three wickets to have the Magpies at 3 for 32.
McMillan would finish the day with 4 for 16 off his 8 overs.
Will Sharp bowled brilliantly claiming 1 for 7 off 6 overs.
The Lakers had the luxury of sharing the bowling load over seven bowlers and dismissed the Magpies for 104 runs to win by 63 runs. McIntosh finished with 1 for 19 off 6, YMCC Coach Brendan Lewis was economical with 1 for 5 off 4 and Cory Pearn had 1 for 18 off 5.1 overs.
The YMCC A Grade will play Benalla Bushrangers at Benalla next Saturday.
