Whilst AFL draft day 2019 did not work out as hoped for Tungamah young gun Nick Irvine, the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club has wasted no time and swooped to grab ‘Whoopa’ Irvine for season 2020.
Nick battled illness in 2019, still managing six games with the Bushrangers following on from four in 2018.
His clean skills and rebounding saw him placed as a “smoky” for the 2019 draft day. However, it was not to be.
“At this stage Irvine is expected to complete an extra year in the Murray Bushrangers’ program as an Under 19 and will continue on his apprenticeship with Yarrawonga Football Netball Club legend ‘Possum’ Purtle,” new Pigeons’ president Ross Mulquiney told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“However, and excitingly for the Pigeons, when available Irvine will slide into the Yarrawonga outfit which is looking to re-enter the finals in season 2020 after missing for the first time since 2005.”
