The challenge was to successfully complete four rounds of golf from dawn to dusk, and raise funds for Cancer Council’s research, prevention and support services.
Travelling in golf carts, a group of four golfers started their challenge on the Silverwoods-located course at 6.00am and finished at 7.00pm.
From Waaia, Wayne Limbrick and wife Pam have a house at Silverwoods Black Bull, as does Nick Ciavarella and joined forces with their son Dean, Limbrick and Jason Hicks from Shepparton.
It’s the first time the foursome has entered the 72-hole golf marathon. “Since I was 21 I’ve had over 200 skin cancers cut out – throughout my body including arms, legs, back and face – and I wanted to support a really good cause,” 64-year-old Wayne told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
Wayne and his playing partners were relived and satisfied to get through four 18-hole rounds on the one day.
“But it is such a good cause and I wanted to play my little part,” Wayne, who is chairman of owners corporation at Silverwoods, said.
“I set a target of raising $3,000 and we’ve raised $4,000 which is great. And it’s a fabulous, great golf course here at Black Bull.”
Black Bull Golf Shop professional Andrew
Long praised everything about the 72-hole fundraiser.
“It was great to see such a big effort for such a good cause,” he said of the foursome, “and good to see the medical staff from Nathalia lending their support.
“It sure was a long golfing day and we’re pleased they chose our golf course for the cause.”
