Although not coming home with any prizes excellent results were had across all the racing over the 800-meter course.
Lucynda Mansfield was probably the pick of the bunch, firstly competing in the under 15s single scull.
She had a very tight finish in her heat with a girl from Barwon Rowing Club.
Both competitors were side by side all the way down the course with Lucy only missing out by about half a meter at the finish.
The girl from Barwon went on to win the final quite comfortably with Lucy left ruing what might have been.
She then teamed up with Emily in the female double scull.
Both rowed exceptionally well with their high stroke rating and clean oar entries showing that they knew how to move a boat fast and were not disgraced but were outclassed in the end by their more experienced opponents.
Next was the mixed double scull that saw Patrick and Emily in the boat together.
This race is open to a range of competitors both young and old with the former having the majority of entries.
Youth prevailed in this instance with Yarrawonga finishing a gallant 3rd in their race a few lengths behind the leading boats.
One of the final events of the day was the mixed quad scull.
Yarrawonga’s crew was made up of Emily, Patrick, Mary and Deidre Pole.
Lucy was this time in the coxswains seat steering and giving the race commands.
Again, this race had become a popular event with all clubs and had a record number of entries. Yarrawonga had a pretty tough draw with Corio Bay RC, Richmond and Essendon on either side of them.
Rowing in the newly acquired fibreglass boat the Yarrawonga crew looked great through the water but just didn’t have the rating and speed to match the other crews.
A bit more training required but the they were not disheartened by their result as they felt they gave it their all and there is great room from improvement.
If you feel interested in giving rowing a go, feel free to come out to the club for a no obligation lesson.

The worst thing that will happen is that you may fall in and get a bit wet, but with the weather we’ve been having, that’s not such a bad thing.
