The Mercy House has won the swimming carnival in 2018, 2019 and again this year in 2020. Can they be stopped in 2021?
The year three-six students had a fantastic day at their recent annual Swimming Sports Carnival held at the Yarrawonga Swimming Pool on Thursday, February 20.
Thanks to the pool staff, the day was given the go ahead and the students enjoyed the opportunity to participate in various swimming events as well as cheer on their house teams to a possible victory.
It was great to see so many parents, friends and family come down and support the students as well.
One of the toughest events on the program was the first swim of the day.
The prestigious Ironman and Ironwoman events, was taken out by year six students, Lach Lee-Conway and Chelsea Kerr.
The day continued with students participating in 50 metre events in all four strokes followed by some novelty events, the 25 metre events, more novelties and to finish the day, freestyle relays and the medley relays.
A high standard of swimming was on display, with some records being broken.
Chelsea Kerr is one to watch in the future.
She broke three records.
In the 12/13 year Breaststroke, she swam 37.47 breaking Torah Duffy’s 2018 time.
In the Breaststroke, Chelsea swam 47.50 beating Laura Zanin’s 2013 time.
In the Butterfly, Chelsea swam 36.65 breaking Abbey Lawless’ record time of 43.97 back in 2009.
Fraser Nagle continued his record-breaking efforts from last year.
He broke the 10 yrs Freestyle record held by Darby Mullins back in 2016 with a time of 38.92 and the Butterfly record with 56.80 beating Darby Mullins time also back in 2016.
Emily Judd in her first carnival broke the 2013 Freestyle record set by Chloe Hart with a swim of 45.52.
The final house results were very close between Loreto (Gold house), Lourdes (Green House) and Mercy (Blue house).
Mercy took out the 2020 Swimming Carnival, followed by Loreto in 2nd place, Lourdes in 3rd and Fatima in 4th place.
Mercy captains, Mia Elliott and Oliver Nagle accepted the trophy with great delight and thanked all the competitors, parents and staff.
Sporting carnivals wouldn’t be a success without the help of parents and guardians on the day.
Whether they be marshalling, lane judges, scorers, etc. it helped make for a smooth carnival.
Thanks also to the staff for their co-ordinating, support and guidance for the students, Lauren Holgate for the staff lunches/drinks and to the lifeguards and First Aid support on the day.
A special thanks goes to all students for creating such an enthusiastic and joyful atmosphere.
Staff of Sacred Heart Primary wish the twenty-five students representing Sacred Heart at the Divisional Swimming Carnival in Wangaratta all the best in the higher-level competition.
