“They look fantastic,” he told the Yarrawonga Chronicle. “They’ve come up brighter than expected, a lot brighter.”
The four brand new 27m poles, all with six lights, are strategically placed on the half-back/half forward ground positions and were turned on Tuesday, May 19.
“We’ve had a lot of great feedback,” Mr Stephens said. “Our whole aim is to play night matches next year.
“The AFL requirement for a club to have a match under lights is like 105 luminaires – we’re averaging 147 all over the ground. We had a light meter technician from Melbourne who set the lights and they were up to 205 in a couple of areas. The netball courts were around 200 too.”
The project was undertaken by Kennedy Builders Mulwala with S and J Coghill the electrical contractor.
Rennie Football Netball Club expresses a big thank you to Yarrawonga Football Netball Club for its assistance and use of their netball poles for relocation and refurbishment to Rennie netball courts
The substantial lighting upgrade at Rennie Recreation Reserve followed $272,965 grant funding via Round 2 of the NSW Government’s Stronger Country Communities Fund last year. It was completed on time and on budget.
The new LED lighting will provide adequate, cost-effective and energy-efficient lighting to the football oval, netball/tennis courts, carpark and playground.
“It will ensure the safety of all visitors and increase the facility’s usefulness,” Mr Stephens said.
“The Rennie Recreational Reserve is a vital community asset for local farming families and all our club supporters.”
Football training for Under 14 and Under 17 grades at Rennie will resume tomorrow, Thursday, June 4.
