The completion of the Yarrawonga Football Netball Club (YFNC) new female changerooms initially attracted $40,000 in state government funding as part of the 2018/2019 Community Sports Infrastructure Fund, Female Friendly Facilities. The project also attracted Federal government funding of $10,000 through the Stronger Communities Program.
The YFNC new lighting and netball court upgrade was completed with the assistance of a $100,000 grant from Sport and Recreation Victoria, Country Football Netball Program 2017-2018 along with Moira Shire Council contribution of $70,000.
In total the projects have totalled around $500,000 with the remainder made up from local support. The projects feature a new Plexicourt surface netball court (creating two courts at the venue) and resurfacing a new Plexicourt to the previous playing court; new lighting with a retro-fit of the entire lighting of the JC Lowe Oval, construction of change rooms facilities adjacent to the new court and construction of a baby change and disability facility.
Moira Shire Mayor Libro Mustica said the JC Lowe Oval is a significant asset for not only the community of Yarrawonga but the surrounding towns of Mulwala, Bundalong, Wilby and Tungamah.
Cr Mustica thanked the Victorian and Federal governments for their generous funding and acknowledged the important local contribution to the projects.
“Moira Shire Council auspiced the Victorian Government funding and also contributed $70,000 to the lighting upgrade,” he said.
“I would also like to congratulate all the local tradies who worked on these two projects.
“They have gone above and beyond for their community and the results are outstanding,” Cr Mustica said.
YFNC President Ross Mulquiney also expressed his gratitude to the local businesses and tradesman for their big part but also acknowledged the great contributions of the Victorian and Federal governments and council.
“The Section 86 JC Lowe Committee in partnership with the Yarrawonga Football Netball would like to thank Sport and Recreation Victoria, Moira Shire Council, the Victorian State Government and Commonwealth Government for the funding and assistance to complete these significant works at the venue,” Mr Mulquiney said.
“In particular I would also like to thank David Booth, in the infancy stages of securing funding, along with Courtney Hamill from the Shire.”
Mr Mulquiney said the projects have delivered important assets to the sporting precinct which will serve the community for many years to come.
