In some significant changes to the Victorian Government restrictions for community sport last Saturday, changes to the dates for contact training and competition for adults have been removed.
AFL North East Border (AFL NEB) which the Murray and Ovens and Murray Football Netball Leagues are affiliated released a statement about the newest changes to restrictions.
“Previously, it was stated that full contact training could start from July 13 and competition from July 20,” the AFL NEB statement reads.
“This now reads as, further announcements on return to contact training and full-contact competition for adults will be made in July.
“Juniors appear to be as per previous advice, but crowds are down from 20 to groups of 10 and now reads as:
- People aged 18 years and under may resume full-contact training and competition. There are no limits on the number of people per group activity or class if all participants are 18 years old or younger.
- Spectators for training and competitions must abide by public gathering restrictions– spectators should be in groups of no more than 10 people in open, outdoor venues and spread out around the ground or venue.”
Locally, the Ovens and Murray Football Netball League will be holding a meeting with club presidents tomorrow night Wednesday, June 24 before a board meeting next Monday to decide on the fate of the 2020 O&M season.
Likewise, the Murray Football Netball League meeting which was to be held tonight (Tuesday, June 23) has been delayed until Wednesday night with the hope of more clarification coming to light.
Murray Football Netball League General Manager Dale Norman reiterated that the start of the MFNL season remains a moving target.
“After the weekend announcements we are waiting clarification from the Victorian Government on what the restrictions mean for regional areas,” Mr Norman said.
“There are also many cross-border anomalies that are a source of frustration.
“The league executive understands the clock is ticking but will give it to the 11th hour to ensure all clubs can make an informed decision on the future of the season.”
Further restrictions relating to indoor sport and recreation activities as well as indoor and outdoor swimming pools were also made and can be found on the Victorian Government website by visiting www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/sport-and-exercise-restrictions-covid-19.
