Tim took inspiration from the F.A.S.T. test which highlights the signs of stroke to create his own fundraising challenge for the Stroke Foundation.
For the month of July Tim will tackle four runs, starting with a 42-kilometre marathon around Vic Park last Saturday before completing a different distance each weekend - 5km, 10 km and finish with a half marathon.
With the heavy rain on Friday night Tim’s 1km route was a bit waterlogged which added to the challenge.
“I was going fine for the first 35 km (laps) then had my first cramp on the 37th lap had to walk a few hundred meters until I could run again,” Tim said.
“Then my other leg went on the 39th lap so I had to walk half a lap but the young boys, Jackson White, Declan and Finn Wood joined me for this lap and another so I could finish.
“It was great to have some people from the Balance Sunrunners, Cobram Parkrun and Bunnings join in for a lap or two.
“I finished the marathon in three hours and 56 minutes which was my goal to break four hours.
Week two of the FAST 4 for Stroke is a 5km run which Tim is taking a lead from parkrun which is a free weekly 5km run held all around the world on a Saturday morning.
Since the Covid 19 restrictions Parkrun has been cancelled.
“A feature of parkrun is the catch up for coffee after the run, so I am encouraging Parkrunnners to do their own solo 5km run on the weekend and donate the $4 spent on a coffee to the stroke foundation,” Tim said.
