The Yarrawonga thirds, renamed the ClubMulwala XVIII (18) for season 2020, have formed their own unique league with neighbouring towns.
YFNC President Ross Mulquiney said it has been a huge commitment from the players and coaches of all junior grades.
“Terry Cartwright and Shane Forge have been working with a number of other clubs and the ClubMulwala XVIII will play a six game plus finals series.
“Under 17 and Under 14 games of football have been held over the last few weeks, with the first round of the 2020 Kennedy Builders Cup set to kick off this Saturday afternoon.”
This competition will showcase the best teenage talent in the region, on the Grove (JC Lowe Oval) every Saturday afternoon.
This 2020 Kennedy Builders Cup involves the district from Yarrawonga, Tungamah, Cobram and Wangaratta areas.
The competition will feature four teams for both age groups where players will beallocated out evenly for a six-game series, playing each other twice.
A two-week finals series will follow with eventual winner taking the glory of the 2020 Kennedy Builders Cup.
In the netball the Ovens and Murray Under 16 team led by Rebecca Carlyle (nee Davis) will compete in the Wangaratta Netball League starting this Saturday.
The YFNC junior netballers (who have previously competed in Wangaratta on Saturday mornings) have also formed over eight teams to compete in a similar local competition to commence shortly on Friday nights.
With all the new rules concerning border travel a number of games have already been played with last Saturday seeing the ClubMulwala XVIII have a good win over the Wangaratta Magpies and this Saturday they will take on the Wangaratta Rovers in Wangaratta.
The AFLW teams also had their first post “covid shut-down” match on Sunday against the Murray Felines, with Jared Loughnan and Shane Preer leading the girls to victory.
The Yarrawonga Little League which caters for all, from ages six to 12 likewise completed round two with JC Lowe Oval a sight to behold with children gracing the turf on a Saturday rather than the familiar Friday night footy.
“As a collective, the YFNC has poured all its effort into providing junior sport in the region. In the current circumstances it has been difficult, but anything worthwhile requires effort,” Mr Mulquiney said.
“YFNC would like to thank their committed sponsors and partners, who without your support, these events would not be able to be run.”
