The events are the Shepparton BMW Victorian PGA Senior Championship at Black Bull Golf Club and the Senior Victorian Open Championship at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort.
Local tournament directors James McCully and Evan Droop regretfully advised of the decision. “We’re having a ‘gap year’ – that’s what we’re referring to it as,” Black Bull’s James told the Yarrawonga Chronicle.
“We spoke to the PGA about the events and due to the obvious unknown at the due time and the amount of work going into preparation for these events, the tough decision had to be made.
“It’s disappointing. But all the legends are looking forward to coming back next year and to all what our great Yarrawonga Mulwala has to offer.”Head professional at Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort’s Evan said it was very much regretted the big events were put off for a year.
“At the end of the day there are sponsors – everyone’s suffering – and we were left with no choice because we don’t know what it’s going to be like then and there is a lot of preparation required,” he said.
“It’s just been a bad year – we had to cancel our May and September Tournaments and the Australian Veterans Championships.
“Yes, it is a gap year and it will be great seeing all these senor legends back in town in 2022.”
PGA Legends Tour Co-Ordinator Andy Rogers said he supported the decision made by both golf clubs. “We want to protect the long-term relationship we’ve got and hopefully continue from 2022 for the following three, four or five years,” he said.
“The legends love playing in Yarrawonga and Mulwala. They are fantastic events – two of our most popular events.”
