The hard-working Godfathers Group received a big cheque for $4,000 from the annual Godfathers Golf Day last Sunday March 5 and Lake Rowan resident John Wright was named the 2023 Godfather of the Year.

Godfathers President Graham Wilson said John is passionately involved in several clubs.
“He is president of Yarrawonga Mulwala Table Tennis Club and has actively served on the committee for approximately 20 years, including the position of junior co-ordinator,” Mr Wilson said.
“John was very effective in the role of junior co-ordinator, assisting juniors with coaching, rules and etiquette.”
This year’s Godfather is also President of the Yarrawonga Show Society and Wilby Tennis Club and is a credit to the younger generation according to Mr Wilson.
“He leads by example, promoting care and participation within the community,” the Godfathers President said.

“In being awarded Godfather of the Year, John creates history as being the son of Helen who received the award in 2012, showing how dedicated this family is to the support of table tennis in Yarrawonga Mulwala.”
In response, John expressed his appreciation of the award, saying he particularly loves helping out with junior table tennis.
“I try and do my best, as well as I can,” he said.
Ninety-eight golfers played the Lake Course last Sunday, with 29 ladies and 69 men.
Netball star Loretta Casey was best performed lady, amassing 38 points off her 40 handicap and also winning B Grade. Joanne Ryan (off 23) won A Grade with 36 points on a countback from Jo McCarthy, also off a handicap of 23.
Best male player and recipient of the Ken (Pascoe) Ellis Trophy was Art Giulani from Orbost with a score of 40 points from a handicap of 15. John Wilson won A Grade with 38 points off his seven handicap.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Golf Club Resort President Laurie Bridgeman welcomed all at the presentations and outlined the history of the Godfathers with Pascoe Ellis actively involved in its establishment nearly 40 years ago.
“Pascoe was very, very community-minded in what he did,” the president said.
“He felt really strongly for the youth of this town.
“The money raised for Godfathers goes towards a variety of sports. I’m very proud to present this cheque for $4,000.”
Godfathers President Graham Wilson expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the hard-working group of the eight member Godfather committee.
“It’s been a long day but we got the job done,” he said.
“Thank you to my group, the terrific sponsors of the day, and to the pro shop and club staff.
“This is our big, sole fundraising event of the year and the amount will help out a lot of youngsters.”
